Temperature — all models rated 0 °C to 40 °C (except GS108Tv3 at 45 °C)
Deployment environments exceeding 40 °C in summer or dropping below 0 °C in winter are outside spec for all models listed. For hot locations (unventilated wiring closets, outbuildings in summer), ensure active or passive ventilation — a small cabinet fan can be sufficient. For sub-zero locations, equipment must be in a heated interior space. Industrial-grade switches rated −40 to +70 °C are available but cost 5–10× more. Brief dips to −2 or −3 °C are generally tolerated in practice, but repeated freeze-thaw cycles degrade capacitors and solder joints over time.
GS108Tv3 — first-boot internet registration required
On a fresh unit, internet access is required to complete NETGEAR account registration before the full configuration menu is available. If internet access at the site is via an 802.1Q trunk port that has not yet been configured, this creates a chicken-and-egg dependency. Workarounds: pre-register on any flat network before deployment, or obtain an offline registration key from NETGEAR in advance.
Japan availability and purchasing
TP-Link Easy Smart models (TL-SGxxxE) are stocked directly on Amazon.co.jp with Japanese-market warranty support and appropriate PSE-compliant power adapters. Netgear Essentials Plus and S350 models are available through Amazon.co.jp, Yodobashi Camera, and Bic Camera. Always verify you are purchasing a Japanese-market SKU to ensure correct power supply and local warranty coverage.
PoE budget guidance for IP cameras
A typical IP camera draws 7–13 W (802.3af PoE, Class 3). For the TL-SG108PE (64 W over 4 ports), comfortably supports 4 cameras with headroom. The GS308EP (62 W over 8 ports) is tight at full load — the GS308EPP (123 W) or GS316EP/EPP are preferable for higher camera counts. The TL-SG1016PE provides PoE on only 8 of its 16 ports; the GS316EP/EPP provides PoE on 15 of 16 ports.
